Marlborough School
Part-Time Finance Teacher
2024-2025 School Year

Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. Marlborough is the oldest independent girls’ school in the Southern California region. Central to Marlborough’s vision that
Equity Leads Education is the belief in and passion for empowering young women to use their immense talents to better the world and become trailblazers in their own right. Bolstered by world-class faculty and staff, Marlborough students are challenged and inspired to work towards their own personal best and, in doing so, have an almost endless array of courses, extracurriculars, electives, and programs to spark their curiosity, deepen their compassion for one another, and lead lives of purpose.

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) is where students create and collaborate, fail forward, and equip themselves with the tools and skills needed to become the leaders of the future. At the root of our mission is a commitment to inspire and empower students to imagine where their curiosity can take them and to create a better world. Marlborough’s CEI houses five core programs, including: Entrepreneurship & Engineering, Research, Computer Science & Software Innovation, Robotics & Fabrication, and Media Studies, as well as the library. CEI programs, courses, and co-curricular opportunities encourage exploration, iteration, collaboration, and creativity through project-based learning and real-world work with mentors and collaborators in-house, across Los Angeles, and beyond. Students gain valuable insight and exposure to interdisciplinary fields outside the traditional school curriculum, while engaging in passion projects and developing tangible, translatable skills.

We are seeking a part-time Finance Teacher, who will play a key role in stewarding instruction, learning, and key activities of our finance curriculum. The part-time finance teacher will work collaboratively with the Director of the CEI, CEI-based faculty, and other school leaders to ensure the finance curriculum aligns with the mission and vision of the School. In addition to teaching Finance 101 to upper school students, this person will be responsible for continuing the development of Mustang Capital, a new course offering as of 2023, in which upper school students manage a separate investment portfolio and make informed decisions about when to buy, hold, or sell securities.

  • Serves as a leader in curriculum and pedagogy for our Finance curriculum, guiding conversations about teaching and learning to ensure that rigor, innovation, diversity, and inclusion are being pursued and that good practices are being followed.
  • Teach Mustang Capital in Semester 1 and Finance 101 in Semester 2 to upper school students.
  • Excellent communication skills with families, students, community partners, and school leadership.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, utilizing Marlborough’s learning management system to take attendance, provide curriculum materials and maintain a digital gradebook.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance or a related field, or with professional experience in these areas equivalent to a degree.
  • Ability to teach personal finance and wealth management basics.
  • Ability to teach financial analysis to more advanced Mustang Capital students, including but not limited to: ethical investing and the impact of social responsibility in the investment process; the evaluation of a company's financial statements, industry trends, and economic conditions; and how to evaluate risk and reward and diversification when making decisions based on investment objectives.
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience and/or mentorship equivalent.
  • Possess a high degree of interest in supporting the developmental needs of teenagers with the ability to combine high expectations with a high level of support.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, planning and interpersonal skills.

  • This is a 25% time position. The competitive annual salary ranges from $18,000 to $25,000.
  • Generous time-off allowance to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
