Faculty Position • Los Angeles, CA

Founded in 1889, Marlborough School is an independent girls college-preparatory school for grades 7 through 12 located in Los Angeles, California. Marlborough is the oldest independent girls’ school in the Southern California region. Central to Marlborough’s vision that
Equity Leads Education is the belief in and passion for empowering young women to use their immense talents to better the world and become trailblazers in their own right. OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:

Marlborough School seeks an engaged, highly organized, dynamic instructor to join our faculty for the 2025-2026 school year. This will be a 50% percent-time position, and the teacher will teach two sections of English across the Middle and Upper Schools (grades 7-12).

Whether in reading, writing, or speaking, the English Department’s goal is to develop these skills through the study of literature. The teachers encourage students to use language artfully and interpret it critically in order to enhance the understanding of self, others, and the world. Many different teaching styles are employed, but every English class seeks to have high levels of participation in student-centered discussions. Students are challenged as writers by investigating a variety of genres and styles, with a special emphasis—particularly in the upper grade levels—on the formal academic essay. The primary goals of instruction are consistent at every grade level—to strengthen the skills with which young people express themselves, and to enhance their ability to analyze the world around them.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach two English classes.
  • Collaborate with fellow English faculty in teacher teams, contributing to lesson preparation as needed.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
  • Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND  REQUIREMENTS:
  • At the minimum, an undergraduate degree in education, English, or the humanities.
  • A minimum of 1 year of proven success teaching English at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrable confidence in subject matter and pedagogical expertise along with dedication to ongoing professional development and innovation in both areas.
  • Ability to thrive in collaborative environments and excel at designing and executing curriculum as a member of a teaching team.
  • An interest, enthusiasm for, and commitment to teaching adolescents and supporting their learning.
  • A passion for supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to balance high expectations with a high level of support.

BENEFITS:

  • This is a 50% time position. The competitive annual salary ranges from $38,000-$50,000.
  • Generous time-off allowance to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
